Tehran, April 30, IRNA -- A large number of workers held a rally here
on Friday on the eve of the International Labor Day, calling for
defending the rights of workers.
A number of MPs and representatives of Iran`s labor community
delivered speeches on labor law, privatization, the Fourth Development
Plan (2005-2010) and temporary contracts.
The workers expressed their discontent with their living standards
and job conditions.
Secretary-General of the Labor House Ali-Reza Mahjoub, addressing
the ceremony, called for ratification of bills to secure the rights
of Iranian workers.
Laws and activities should be directed in a way to support the
vulnerable class of the society, he said, adding laws which will
not support the real demands of workers cannot be implemented.
Social welfare will be established based on social justice while
unjustified privatization has inflicted heavy damage to the country`s
economic and social bodies, Mahjoub said.
He called for paying attention to the demands of the labor
community and solidarity with workers.
