Auto accidents dramatically on rise in Iran over recent years

Tehran, Aug 1, IRNA -- Auto accidents have dramatically increased in Iran over recent years, placing Iran among states with highest road accidents, said an insurance official here on Sunday.

Director of Auto Insurance Department at private Dana Insurance Co. Siavash Mohammed Gharibani told IRNA that about 80 percent of the accidents, resulting in death, are caused by human error in Iran.

Gharibani put the accident toll in Iran in 2003 at 25,722 and in 2002 at 21,873.

He said among the most important reasons for road accidents in Iran are lack of necessary training, insufficient information of drivers, dilapidated cars and faulty roads.
