Iran's Foreign Currency Deposits at 23 Billion Dollars

Tehran, Aug 3, IRNA -- Iran's total foreign currency deposits reached dlr 23.8 billion in the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 2004), a morning daily wrote on Tuesday.

The English-language 'Iran Daily` further said that the figure shows an increase of dlr 3.7 billion against the figure of the preceding year.

Iran's hard currency assets stood at dlr 19.3 billion in the March 2002-March 2003 period, it said.

Of the government's total hard currency assets last year, some dlr 8.4 billion was deposited with the government's foreign exchange reserve fund, the paper announced.

Foreign currency bonds worth dlr 11.4 billion, time deposits worth dlr 9.3 billion and demand deposits worth dlr 742 million constitute the major portion of the country's foreign exchange deposits in the same period, it noted.

The CBI holds some dlr 304 million worth of hard currency notes whereas clearing and special accounts hold dlr 799 million.
