Official urges Iran to face globalization

Tehran, Aug 12, IRNA -- Iran's Permanent Ambassador to UNESCO Ahmad Jalali, speaking at the fifth gathering of country's cultural attaches in Tehran Thursday, said that with the current trend toward globalization, Iran should get prepared to face it.

According to a report released by the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Culture and Communications Organization, he referred to globalization as one of the issues on UNESCO agenda and said that focus is being placed on the trend of approach towards it from cultural and religious points of view.

Speaking on the sixth day of the gathering, he underlined the significance of globalization as well as expansion of the world culture and the challenges facing it.

Jalali said that in the last meeting of UNESCO representatives, which was attended by 121 ministers from the world countries, the significance and variety of the world cultures were reiterated.

Stressing the need to establish cultural associations, the ambassador urged drawing up of a specific cultural framework, in case Iran's culture is genuine.

The 5th gathering of Iranian cultural attaches opened here Saturday in the presence of Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel.

Several political and cultural officials as well as 59 Iranian cultural attaches are attending the eight-day gathering to evaluate Iran's programs and activities outside the country over the past two years.
