Quake hits devastated Bam once again

Tehran, Aug 16, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4.2 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale hit the city of Bam, in the southeastern province of Kerman, on Monday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 11:01 hours local time.

A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale flattened the historical city of Bam on December 26, 2003, killing over 30,000 people and injuring tens of thousands of others.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are usual occurrences.
