Iran's hopes in Olympic's judo dashed

Athens, Aug 17, IRNA -- Reza Chah-Khandaq poured cold water on Iran camp as he lost on technical fall in the second round of under-81 kg judo competitions of the 28th Olympic Games here Tuesday.

Khandaq, who had defeated the Spaniard Ricardo in the additional time in his opening match was handed a loss by his Ukrainian rival and placed in losers group.

He survives to beat for bronze medal in case the Ukrainian wins his next fight.

Iran has failed to snatch a medal in judo competitions as Massoud Haji Akhoundzadeh and Hamed Malek-Mohammadi finished fifth and seventh in -60 and -73 kg events respectively and the two-time world -66 kg champion Arash Mir-Esmaeili pulled out of the Games as he was drawn to face Ehud Vaks from Israel.
