Ban on cement export from Iran's Kurdestan province to northern Iraq lifted

Sanandaj, Kurdestan prov, Aug 18, IRNA -- Manager of Bijar Cement Plant Mansour Najafi said that the ban imposed on the export of cement to northern Iraq a month ago was lifted on Wednesday.

He told IRNA that the ban had to do with the shortage of transportation and their indefinite rate, given the growing cost of cement.

"The revenue of exported cement formerly standing at 45 dollars per ton has now increased to 55 dollars per ton.

"Some 59,800 tons of cement are produced by Bijar Cement Plant every month, of which 10,000 tons are exported to Iraq and the remaining is used domestically," he added.

According to the official, the plant is set to export 150,000 tons of cement to Iraq in the current year.

Najafi put the cement exported to northern Iraq in the past year at 20,000 tons.

"Thirty five million dollars is required to implement the projects aiming to expand the plant and increase its output, which can only be earned through export," he concluded.
