Iranian discus thrower Samimi crashes out of Olympics games

Athens, Aug 21, IRNA -- Iran's discus thrower Abbas Samimi made an embarrassing exit in the first round competitions of the 28th Olympic Games in Athens on Saturday.

The Asian champion, finished 16th among 20 throwers in pool 2 with a 57.57m record.

Samimi had already set a 64.98m record.

Robert Fazekas from Hungary advanced to the next round as he stood top with a 68.10m throw while Lars Riedel from Germany and the United States' Casey Malone also qualified with 64.20m and 63.27m records respectively.

Qualifying mark is 64.50m or at least 12 best performers advance to final.

Seventeen in pool 1 competed. Virgilijus Alekna from Lithuania stormed into next round with a 67.79m throw and Aleksander Tammert from Estonia and Russia's Hannes Hopley stood second and third with 65.70m and 63.89m records.
