"Is Iran America's New Whipping Boy?": A Forum on US Foreign Policy toward Iran

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - August 24, 2004 - The Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats organization (BAIAD) today announced it will be holding an educational forum on the direction of US-Iran relations entitled "Is Iran America's New Whipping Boy?" to be held on Sunday, August 29th at Faz restaurant in Sunnyvale, California. The meeting will start at 5:00 PM.

"This is the second in a series of educational events we are presenting as part of our efforts to raise awareness about political issues that are important to Iranian-Americans," said BAIAD President Mehrdad Moayedzadeh. He added: "Anti-Iran rhetoric in American media has clearly been stepped up during the past 4 weeks and there have been lots of opinions flying around about what US foreign policy should be toward Iran. We hope to help sort out facts from fiction and shed some light on this issue, especially by soliciting expert analysis of two career scholars in this field."

The forum will include presentations by two prominent Bay Area professors of political science and the president of BAIAD. The guest speakers are Dr. Dariush Zahedi, a lecturer in the Political Science Department at the University of California, Berkeley, and Dr. Ali Ferdowsi, Chair of the History & Political Science Department at the Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont. BAIAD president Mehrdad Moayedzadeh will present BAIAD's views on US foreign policy with respect to Iran and will speak to how Iranian-Americans may influence that policy. Conducted in two segments, the speaker's presentations will be followed by a question and answer session. The event is set for the evening of Sunday, August 29, at Faz restaurant, located at 1108 N. Mathilda Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089. The forum will be in English and will run from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Doors will open to the public at 4:45 p.m. This meeting is open to public and admission is free.
