Baroev beats Barzi in semi, Monzon tames Ashkani in Olypmics Greco-Roman wrestling

Athens, Aug 25, IRNA -- Khasan Baroev from Russia whitewashed Iran's Sajjad Barzi 4-0 in men's 120 kg Greco-Roman semifinal bout of the 28th Olympic Games while Ali Ashkani handed Iran the first defeat in 60 kg class here Wednesday.

Eyeing the bronze, Barzi meets Rulon Gardner from the United States, who was defeated 4-1 by Kazakh wrestler Georgiy Tsurtsumia in the semifinal.

In 60 kg, Ashkani was overpowered by his Cuban rival, Roberto Monzon, who won 4-1.

The medal-hungry Iran was stunned Tuesday as once world Greco-Roman champion Hassan Rangraz was booted out after his first bout and his teammate Parviz Zeidvand said adios to the Olympic Games later in the day.

In 55 kg, the gold hopeful Rangraz made an embarrassing exit with a 6-4 loss to Lazaro Rivas from Cuba, who had already thrashed Algeria's Samir Benchenaf 11-0.

Rangraz snatched a 10-0 consolation win over the Algerian.

Rivas was also eliminated as he was tamed 6-1 by Istvan Majoros from Hungary, who qualified alongside Ukrainian wrestler Oleksiy Vakulenko and Russia's Gueidar Mamededaliev.

In 66 kg, Zeidvand who had a good start with two 5-0 and 3-1 victories over his Kyrgyz and Spanish opponents, Kanatbek Begaliev and Moises Sanchez, kept Iran ruing with a 2-1 loss to Azerbaijan's Farid Mansurov in a second-round nail-biting bout.

Jimmy Samuelsson from Sweden edged past his South Korean rival, Kim In-sub, 3-1 to Join Mansurov.
