UN Persian Website on HIV/AIDS for Iranians

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA -- On the occasion of World AIDS Day on Wednesday, the UN HIV/AIDS Theme Group in the Islamic Republic of Iran will launch its bilingual Persian and English Website to allow Iranian women and men to have access to the latest information on HIV/AIDS in Persian.

According to a press release issued by the UN Information Center in Tehran, addressing a press conference at the Center for Disease Control, UNICEF Representative and Chairwoman of UN HIV/AIDS Theme Group, Kari Egge said the Website's address is: womenandaids.org.

She added that the Website contains useful information on HIV/AIDS for Persian speaking people in Iran and around the world.

Egge said that information, education and communication are key to fighting and preventing HIV/AIDS. The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is 'Women, Girls and HIV/AIDS'.

Referring to the important role played by the media in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Egge said the media has the biggest potential as well as a strong responsibility to reach out to women and girls all over Iran and provide them with information on the disease.

"The media should report and report correctly," she said adding that it is everyone's responsibility -- the UN, government, media and civil society -- to do their utmost to inform and educate the public about HIV/AIDS.
