According to Fars province's seismological base affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 02:53 a.m. Wednesday (23.23 GMT Tuesday).
There were no reports of damage to life or property caused by the quake.
Likewise, the city of Shoushtar in the southern province of Khuzestan was hit by an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the open-ended Richter scale at 20:16 p.m. Tuesday (16.46 GMT).
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are usual occurrences.
