Quake rattles southern Iran

Tehran, Dec 5, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the open-ended Richter scale shook the city of Gachsaran in the southern province of Kohkilouyeh-Boyer Ahmad on Sunday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 11:49 a.m. (08.19 GMT) Sunday.

There were no reports of damage to life or property caused by the quake.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are usual occurrences.
