Khorramshahr, Khuzestan prov, Dec 6, IRNA -- Ten Iranian sailors died
when their wooden fishing boat was caught up in a severe storm in the
Persian Gulf on Saturday night.
An informed source in this provincial port city told IRNA on
Monday just one of the 11 men on board survived when the boat ran into
difficulties between Dubai and Iran's southwestern city of
Khorramshahr.
Jafar, born in Abadan (Khuzestan province), was the only survivor
of the incident and is now undergoing hospitalization.
Seven of the dead sailors' bodies have been recovered.
The source said the victims had been on water for 30 hours and no
rescue services were possible due to disruptions in communication.
At least 11 fishing and trade boats sank between Arvand waterway
and northern Persian Gulf waters because of technical faults and
inclement weather this year.
