Aliyev satisfied with economic projects with Iran

Baku, Dec 9, IRNA -- Azeri President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over implementation of joint economic projects with Iran.

Aliyev, in a meeting with Iran's special envoy for the Caspian Sea affairs Mehdi Safari, said the two countries are carrying out joint economic projects speedily, indicating mutual interest in expansion of relations.

He added that in his phone conversation with Iran's President Mohammad Khatami, the two sides discussed Aliyev's upcoming visit to Iran and expressed hope the documents which will be signed during the visit would help promote welfare of the two nations.

The president expressed satisfaction over President Khatami's visit to his country in August and stressed further expansion of ties at the bilateral and regional levels.

He hoped talks between Tehran and Baku on the legal regime of the Caspian Sea would have positive results.

Safari, for his part, conveyed Khatami's condolence message on the death anniversary of former president Heydar Aliyev and said the Iranian president is looking forward to Ilham Aliyev's Tehran visit.

He noted that exchange of visits between the two countries' dignitaries will be important in expansion of relations.

Iran's special envoy for the Caspian Sea affairs Mehdi Safari arrived in Azerbaijan capital of Baku to confer with senior Azeri officials on key bilateral issues including the legal regime for the Caspian Sea.
