UNICEF will provide children and parents with training, health, nutrition and birth registration programs in Hormuzgan, as well as in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan and northwestern province of West Azerbaijan, said Enayatollah Asaei, who is in charge of UNICEF program for children's growth in Iran.
He placed importance on birth registration as the first step towards social, vocational and health planning for children, saying that the programs could be used as model in other areas of Iran to promote children's living indices.
Birth registration in Iran is facing some major obstacles such as illegal immigration, mismanagement and lack of public information, he added.
He underlined the use of the experiences of international organizations, saying that setting up coordination council and mobile teams for birth registration in the provinces are considered as effective strategies for registering births.
