Iranian Parliament Speaker Refuses To Comment About Journalists Arrest

12/26/04 Tehran, Dec 26, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad Adel avoided talking about the arrest of some journalists and weblog writers and said that he cannot say anything on the issue without knowing about the offense.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Majlis open session on Sunday, he added that objections about the arrest of individuals are logical if one is certain that no offense has been committed.

Turning to measures taken to the effect by Majlis, he noted that the parliament has not been called on to follow up the issue.

About international reaction to the arrest of Iranian journalists and weblog writers, he said, "You are well aware of the world approach towards Iran on the 'political' issue of human rights."
