The offshore platform of Soroush oilfield, the largest in the Middle East, will be put into operation in the near future, said the executive manager of Soroush and Norouz oilfields development plan on Sunday, IRNA repored from Tehran.
Talking to IRNA, Mehdi Atrianfar added the platform, installed 83 km southwest of Kharg, is a part of the two fields' development plan.
The platform weighs 9,300 tons, said the official adding that its weight will reach 11,500 tons when it starts operation. According to Atrianfar, the facility which is 50m and 40m in length and width and 45m high is to process the crude oil in Soroush field.
The development plan of the two fields include 27 oil wells and two for water injection, out of which 10 are located on Soroush field and 17 belong to Norouz.
He added some 190,000 barrels of oil are produced daily as the installations are renovated and the production plan is implemented.
The figure equals five percent of the country's oil production or 25 percent of the Iranian continental shelf output, said Atrianfar adding it helps create job opportunities and increase the country's revenue.
The executive manager said the plan has made a 95 percent physical progress and is anticipated to be inaugurated within the next four months.
"Although the development plan is semifinished, it has had the capacity of oil production since two years ago and yielded 60 thousand bpd.
"Some 42 mbpd of oil have been produced in these two fields during the past two years, generating about dlrs 800 million for the National Iranian Oil Company which was invested in the project.
