A former member of the under-21 German national team and starting midfielder of second division squad VfB Luebeck is to play in future for Iran's national team, according to the daily Berliner Zeitung, IRNA reported from Berlin on Wednesday.
Ferydoon Zandi, whose father is Iranian and mother is German, said that he would play in Iran's upcoming match against Laos.
"In Germany, fans are only watching national matches to see their national team lose. I don't like that," the 24-year-old Zandi added, explaining his decision "to switch sides".
The latest changes in FIFA rules have enabled the ex-German junior player to play for the A-team of another country.
Zandi who has also been linked with Hamburger SV and Hannover 96, is currently ranked third in the second Bundesliga goalscoring table.
The German-Iranian footballer was considered a great talent by football scouts but has so far failed to meet their high expectations.
