Groups of people kept moving toward Azadi square from various routes to attend the ceremony.

President Khatami in his speech called for properly organizing the seventh round of parliamentary elections as the Iranian nation has decided to pursue the path of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini.

The officials should keep their promise to render services to the Iranian people as the late Imam had asked them to do so.

The officials should consider the fact that any undue pressure would undermine the fundamental principles of the Islamic Revolution, Khatami noted to cheering crowds of people.

The Iranian Islamic Revolution has been the continuation of about 100 years of struggles for the sake of religion and freedom in Iran, he said.

In his address on jubilation of the 25th anniversary of the victory of Islamic Revolution at Tehran Azadi square, President Khatami said that elections symbolize democracy.

He added that if the elections are held properly and once the people realize that the law and the ruling Islamic system provide for freedom to vote and to be elected, then officials have performed their duties and rendered their services to the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader.

The president added if too much pressure is exerted on the people, both the nation and the system would be oppressed and great loss would be incurred.

He reiterated that the nation is firmly determined to continue the way taken by the late Imam Khomeini.

According to our pledge to the Almighty and the people, we should accompany the public to this end, said the chief executive as he pledged to talk about the upcoming elections in a near future.
