Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi arrived in Rome on Thursday for a two-day official visit to take part in special ceremonies marking the 50th anniversary of Iran-Vatican relations, IRNA reported.
Kharrazi, heading a delegation of some officials from his ministry, was received by special representative of Vatican's Prime Minister Cardinal Angelio Sudano at Leonardo Da Vinci airport. He is to have an audience with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican on Friday.
In separate meetings with Vatican's prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Kharrazi is to discuss bilateral relations.
The 50th anniversary of Iran-Vatican relations will be observed in the Vatican, in which some 40 documents pertaining to the 500-year ties between Iran and world Catholic churches will be showcased.
During his visit, Kharrazi will also meet his Italian counterpart Franco Frattini and discuss bilateral relations and regional and international situation.
