The 14th International Conference on the Persian Gulf will be held in Tehran on February 17-18, IRNA reported.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Education and Research Affairs Alireza Mo`ayeri said here Saturday that the theme of the conference, given the sensitive situation of the region following occupation of Iraq, will revolve around the Iraqi issue.
He also said experts and researchers from 25 world countries are to participate in the two-day event.
He referred to Germany, the US, Britain, Russia, France, Canada, Hungary, the Netherlands, Egypt, Belgium, Turkey, China, Tunisia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan as the countries whose scholars are to present articles to the conference.
According to the official, over 200 articles had been presented to the secretariat of the conference out of which 59 were selected.
"Future Perspective of Iraq", "Perspective of Regional Security", "the US and the Persian Gulf", "International Powers and the Persian Gulf", "Oil and Geo-Economic Developments" and "New Models of Civilizations" are among the topics to be discussed in the conference, he added.
Meanwhile, Mo`ayeri noted, the 2nd International Conference on the Indian Ocean will also be held by his office for two days as of February 15.
30 articles on security and energy in the Indian Ocean will be presented to the conference by scholars from its littoral states.
The Foreign Ministry official further noted that India, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa and Canada are the countries which are going to participate in the conference.
