The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) here Monday accepted the resignation of Fatemeh Haqiqatjou, an MP from Tehran, IRNA reported.
Haqiqatjou's resignation was discussed by 200 MPs present at this morning's open session of Majlis and was accepted by a majority.
Haqiqatjou, along with 107 other MPs, extended their resignations to Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi on Sunday, February 1, in protest at the mass disqualification of candidates wanting to stand in the 7th Majlis election.
According to Article 92 of the Majlis' by-laws, any Majlis deputy can resign from his/her post and the resignation becomes effective upon acceptance by Majlis.
However, Article 95 of the same by-laws provides that if the offer to resign of any MP results in the Majlis failing to reach a quorum, the offer cannot be considered by Majlis.
