All Iranian and Iraqi prisoners of war (POWs)
have been released based on a Tehran-Baghdad agreement, said an
Iranian official in Tehran on Saturday, IRNA reported.
Head of the General Information Security Department at the
Commander-in-Chief's Office and the POWs Commissions Brigadier
General Abdollah Najafi told reporters that there are no Iranian POW
in Iraq and no Iraq POW in Iran now.
Najafi said the last batch of Iraqi POWs was freed on May 5, 2003,
while the last group of Iranian POWs were released on May 17-18 in
2002.
He said his commission is now following up the case of 7,000
Iranian missing-in-action, a majority of whom have most probably died.
He added that his commission is now in talks with the
International Committee of the Red Cross to verify fate of the Iranian
MIAs.
