President Mohammad Khatami and Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi took part in a joint session with the 12-member Guardian Council on Saturday to review the upcoming seventh parliamentary elections as well as disqualifications of a number of candidates, IRNA reported from Tehran.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Guardian Council, at the meeting the participants underlined the need to observe and implement the elections law and called for massive public turn out in the elections.
They also called for the creation of a suitable ground for holding a sound, free and democratic parliamentary elections by respecting the law and safeguarding the votes of the people.
Since the Guardian Council has the final say in qualifying/disqualifying the candidates, the participants called for full observance of law as well as paying due attention to the recent directives given by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in this connection.
