President Mohammad Khatami, who arrived in Bern on Monday night to attend the World Economic Forum, was officially welcomed by his Swiss counterpart Joseph Deiss on Tuesday, IRNA reported.
Besides Deiss, Khatami is expected to hold separate meetings with speaker of Swiss Senate and a number of religious leaders of the country.
Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi is accompanying President Khatami in his visit to Switzerland which is taking place at the official invitation of Swiss president.
Khatami and Deiss are scheduled to explore possible avenues for expansion of bilateral trade and economic ties and review issues of mutual interest Tuesday.
The Iranian president is to deliver a keynote speech at the WEF about the world economy and global peace and security.
The 34th WEF will open on January 21 and will continue until January 25 with 2,100 economic experts and heads of states from 94 countries attending.
Various topics including 'Global peace', 'Partnership for Global Security and Welfare', and 'Iraqi Reconstruction' will be raised at the WEF meeting.
WEF Founder Klaus Schwab said that the Forum is expected to promote partnership among various countries for global peace, security and welfare.
