Deputy Industry and Mining Minister said on Thursday that minerals and metal exports are estimated to top dlrs 850 million by the end of the current Iranian year (ends March 20), IRNA reported from Nahabandan, Khorasan province.
Speaking at a opening of granite factory in southern province Jafar Serqini said "other than coal all other mining need for industry are produced inside the country."
He further said that total mining production stood 130 million tons last year which was four million tons over the forecasted target in the Third Five-Year Development plan (March 2000-March 2005).
The latest figures available for mineral exports are from Iran's Customs Organization which said here last month that in the first four months of the current year over 91 percent of estimates outlined in the third development plan were met.
The figure indicates that over 879,800 tons of various assortment of minerals were exported with value of dlrs 58.9 million. The average price of each ton of minerals exports was dlrs 66.9, "which was dlrs 23.2 less than in the same period last year."
The report further said that the share of mineral exports' value and weight in the total non-oil exports were 14.6 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively.
The value of major exports items consisted of stone and zinc concentrate with dlrs 11.7 million, and un-finished construction stones at dlrs 6.5 million, respectively.
Although Iran possesses rich mineral resources of over 50 billion tons, only 130 million tons were mined last year while export of minerals amounted to dlrs 770 million during the same period.
