An earthquake measuring 4.5 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted areas around Iran's southern city of Kazeroun, Fars province, early Friday, IRNA reported from Tehran.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, said the tremor occurred at 00:49 am local time (2119 GMT).
There had been no reports on possible casualties or damage. Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
Iran's ancient southeastern Silk Road city of Bam, Kerman province, was almost levelled to ground last December in an earthquake measuring 6.3 degrees on the Richter scale.
The death toll of the quake has been declared at about 41,000 with several thousands injured.
