Inter-Faith Clergy of Greater Atlantic City Organize Radiothon for Sunday, January 25 to Benefit Victims of Iranian Earthquake

Grass roots effort brings together diverse faiths for humanitarian purposes

January 19, 2004,Atlantic City, NJ--- Local clergy from the Christian, Jewish and Islamic faiths are joining together to come to the aid of victims of the catastrophic earthquake that struck southeastern Iran this past December 26. Margate Rabbi Aaron Krauss has asked fellow members of the Inter-Faith Clergy of Greater Atlantic City, as well as community volunteers and civic leaders, to be part of this appeal to come to the aid of the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which provides relief for earthquake victims in Iran. As a result, an afternoon Radiothon is set for Sunday, January 25thfrom 1 - 4 p.m. to air live on WOND-AM Radio(1400 AM). The three-hour Radiothon will be hosted by local WOND radio personalities Seth Grossman, Barry Levine and Champ Hoffman.

The grass roots effort has united many people of different faiths and countries for a common cause. "When people of different faith come together to help those who are in great need, we take away another drop of hatred in the world," said Rabbi Krauss.

The effort has also extended into the community, with local city government, business people, and media volunteering to help and donate services. On January 14, Rabbi Krauss and fellow clergy, including Pastor Stephen Wright of the Way of Life Assembly of God Church, Kamal El Sayegh, Imam of El TaQwa Mosque and Reverend Ronald Falotico of St. Peter R.C. Church, each addressed the Atlantic City Council and announced plans for helping earthquake relief efforts.

According to sources, there has been an incredible outpouring of sympathy and support for the victims of the earthquake by the international community, including U.S. based disaster relief organizations and U.S. corporations. They are providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance to those injured or displaced by the earthquake. The United States Government has also provided humanitarian aid through a team of American medical and disaster relief professionals. As President Bush has said, "What we're doing in Iran is we're showing the Iranian people (that) the American people care, that they've got great compassion for human suffering."
