An earthquake measuring 3.9
degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Jahrom in
the southern province of Fars Monday night, IRNA reported from Shiraz.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to
Tehran University, said the tremor, epicentered in an area 190 km
south of the provincial capital of Shiraz, occurred at 21:39
hours local time (1809 GMT).
There were no reports of any casualties or damage to properties
caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault
lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
