It was a privilege to observe Amin Nourani's portraits of Sadegh Hedayat at Elaheh Gallery.
I was involved with several events last year for Sadegh Hedayat's centenary celebration, both in Iran and abroad. I wanted to go and see this exhibition very eagerly. I am pleased to say that my enthusiasm was well founded!
Mr. Amin Nourani's works were so interesting. In my opinion, these paintings brought about and showed all the many aspects of this great scholar, writer, poet, and yes a painter.
With the efforts of Hedayat's nephew, Jahangir Hedayat, who runs Sadegh Hedayat's Centre in Iran, several books and posters were published during the last year's celebration. They have also set up a literary prize in Hedayat's honor and name, which is given out on his birthday, 28th Bahman (17th February), every year.
Many of Nourani's paintings were painted from the well-known pictures of Mr. Hedayat. But this for me only added to the flavor of the works, and I wish I had extra money in the bank and I could treat myself to at least one of these lovely paintings of this great man of our modern literature.
I asked Mr. Nourani to choose two of his favorite ones, and here you can see him standing next to it.
Mr. Nourani is an art teacher and this was his first solo exhibition.
