Map row settled, Iran will take part in Islamic Games

Tehran, July 7, IRNA -- The Head of the National Olympic Committee Wednesday said the row between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the name of "Persian Gulf" was settled and the country will dispatch sportsmen to the peninsula where the first Islamic States' Games is held.

Talking to IRNA, Mostafa Hashemi-Taba added Iran will pit top players in 12 fields of the Games slated for late March 2005.

The organizing committee printed a map on which the "Persian" Gulf was renamed by the "Arabian" Gulf.

The NOC supremo had already warned Iran would not participate in the games if Saudi officials did not give a reasonable response for the mistake.

Hashemi-Taba urged the related federations to make arrangements for the overseas event.
