Quake hits Iran's southeastern city of Jiroft

Tehran, July 13, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale hit the city of Jiroft in the southeastern province of Kerman Tuesday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 10:20 hours local time (0550 GMT).

There were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage to property.

A devastating earthquake with the magnitude of 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale rocked the historical city of Bam, in the same province, on December 26, 2003, killing over 30,000 people and injuring some 9,400.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
