Iranian teachers demand release of their representatives

Representatives of the Teachers Union on Sunday staged protest in front of the parliament in Tehran demanding release of two union leaders, IRNA reported.

Secretary of the Union Mahmoud Beheshti and its spokesman Ali Asghar Zati have been put into custody since July 10.

Over 150 members of the Teachers Union called on members of parliament (MPs) to fulfil the promises they have given to improve payment standard of the teachers.

The majority of the teachers are living under the poverty line.

The government has provided a plan to help improve life standard of the teachers which need parliament approval.

The teachers are critical of prolongation of the process that both the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) and the parliament should give go-ahead to the new payment system.
