Iranian archeologists have mapped out the ancient 90-hectare city of Estakhr, one of the most prosperous cities of the Sassanid era.
It is located near Naqsh-e Rostam, near Shiraz, featuring artifacts spanning from the Achaemenid dynasty till the Islamic era in Iran. "The surveying and documentation project lasted 4 months and we took lots of photos of the city," said Ahmed Asadi, head of the research team.
He added the researchers managed to unearth some artifacts previously unknown to archeologists. They also stumbled into a qanat, used to channel water to the city.
