Iran's envoy: Tehran-Ankara security cooperation expanding

Ankara, July 21, IRNA -- Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador to Turkey Firouz Dowlatabadi said here on Wednesday, "Important steps have been taken in broadening Tehran-Ankara security cooperation."

Making the comment in an exclusive interview with NTV network, Dowlatabadi added, "The last week joint session of the Iranian and Turkish security officials in Ankara was quite fruitful, for instance."

He said, "Iran continues imposing severe restrictions against illegal entrance of Gol Congress (former PKK) members to its soil, that is among Ankara's top requests."

In response to NTV reporter's question, "Is Iran ready to take part in joint military operations against PKK with Turkey?" the Iranian ambassador said, "The prerequisite for getting engaged in such operations is precise planning in advance, and signing certain pacts."

In response to another question on Israel's activities in northern parts of Iraq, Dowlatabadi said, "Israel's final objective is the establishment of an independent Kurdish government in Iraq's Kurdistan Province and although such reports are being broadcast today, the Israeli regime, in collaboration with the CIA and the Intelligent Service, has been pursuing that objective for 20 years."

He further elaborated, "In order to make that dream come true, Tel Aviv has been purchasing lands in Iraqi Kurdistan through its agents and been busy training the Kurds how to push forth their demands for the establishment of Kurdistan Republic."

Iran's ambassador to Ankara added, "Of course the Kurds trained by Zionist agents are definitely not members of Kurdistan's Democratic Party or the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), since those Kurdish parties are well aware of the fact that such moves merely secure the Zionists' interests in the region and not that of the Iraqi Kurds."

Dowlatabadi noted, "Most of the preys of the Zionists in Iraqi Kurdistan are those Kurds living in remote parts of that province, since the Democratic Party of Kurdistan and the PUK refrain from cooperation with them.' He added, "We definitely know that Israel and the United States, as well as certain European countries, are promoting and supporting the establishment of an independent Kurdish government in northern Iraq."

The Iranian ambassador added, "If that objective is materialized the whole region would be witness to the emergence of countless new crises."

Ambassador Dowlatabadi's remarks in his exclusive interview with NTV also had a broad reflection in Turkey's Wednesday morning dailies.

Most of Turkey's morning dailies have mainly focussed on Tehran-Ankara cooperation in campaign against Gol Congress (former PKK) and Iran's agreement on recognizing that party as a terror organization
