Iranian reformists hold 7th nationwide congress in Tehran

Tehran, July 21, IRNA -- The Islamic Iran's Mosharekat (Participation) Front's (IIMF) 7th Nationwide Congress was held in Tehran on Friday in the presence of representatives from other leading political parties in the region, such as Turkey's Mam-e-Mihan, and Pakistan`s Muslim League.

The IIMF Secretary General Mohammad-Reza Khatami said at the opening session of the congress, "Continuation of the reforms movement is the best and surest path towards securing Iran's interests."

The president's brother added, "The IIMF, realizing the historical demands of the day, and while remaining faithful to the fundamentals of Islam and its political and social commitments, has always tried to build a bridge between the ruling system and the nation."

He added, "We have furthermore tried to change the historical fractions between the Iranian nation and the ruling systems into a constructive and fruitful trend in the service of realizing the Iranian nation's historical demands."

Stressing that continuation of the reforms movement till full establishment of democracy in Iran is the best way for securing Iran's national interests, he added, "Under the current conditions we feel the necessity to pave the hard path, playing a role that has two various aspects."

Khatami stressed, "The IIMF would neither turn into an opposition, nor considers the path towards salvation the overthrowing of the country's legal apparatus, but we do not approve of those conservative reformers' approach that encourage yielding to all circumstances in order to secure minimal gains."

The IIMF that had the majority of seats at the 6th Majlis lost the 7th Majlis elections to the newly established political party Abadgaran-e Iran-e Eslami.
