Iranian journalists to enjoy unemployment insurance benefits

Tehran, July 26, IRNA -- Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance on Press Affairs Mohammad Sohofi said on Monday that journalists should enjoy unemployment insurance benefits given the unstable situation of the press in Iran.

In a meeting with Minister of Welfare and Social Security Mohammad Sharifzadegan, Sohofi stressed that the unexpected closure of some newspapers will have major effects on the job security of journalists.

He attached special significance to the effective role of journalists in the society, adding if their problems are taken into consideration, the situation of information dissemination in the society will have the best results.

At the meeting, Sharifzadegan voiced the readiness of his ministry to further support the journalists and solve their problems.

He stressed that the issues raised by Sohofi will be studied in expert sessions of the Welfare and Social Security Ministry.

The minister also expressed hope that the problems related to the means of livelihood for journalists will be solved and that newspapers will be among the daily needs of the public.

The two Persian Tehran-based dailies 'Vaqaye Ettefaqieh` and 'Jomhuriyat` were closed last week.
