Turkish PM arrives in Iran

Tehran, July 28, IRNA -- First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref on Wednesday led an official ceremony in Tehran welcoming the visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Sa'adabad Cultural Complex.

The Turkish prime minister, accompanied by a high-level politico-economic delegation, arrived here early Wednesday for an official visit to discuss ways of bolstering bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues.

Vice-President Aref led several high-ranking Iranian officials in the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Erdogan and his delegation which included a review of the guards of honor.

High-ranking delegations of the two countries are scheduled to hold talks shortly on issues of joint concern, such as the fate of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party PKK), Iraq and Palestine.

During his two-day visit, which is taking place at the invitation of Aref, the Turkish premier will also be attending the 18th session of the Iran-Turkey Joint Economic and Trade Commission.

The two sides are expected to sign several documents on security, economic and cultural cooperation to further expand relations.

Trade exchanges between the two countries has seen a surge in recent years. They were valued at 2.4 billion dollars last year, showing a dramatic 91 percent increase compared to that of the previous year with the two sides keen to further increasing this figure to 10 billion dollars in the near future.
