Iran: 22 projectsunderway in Bam with cooperation of foreign states

Kerman, July 29, IRNA -- Twenty-two housing, cultural and health projects are currently under construction in the quake-stricken city of Bam with participation of five foreign countries, it was announced in Kerman on Thursday.

Talking to IRNA, Managing Director of Kerman Red Crescent Society Mehdi Abna said that Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Britain and Denmark are assissting Iran in that regard.

He said 100 prefabricated residential units are being constructed with cooperation of South Korea adding that the units will be completed within the next month.

France is also installing 1,500 prefabricated health units in the southeastern city while Japan donated 1.3 million yen for construction of schools in Bam, he announced.

Abna noted that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will establish an aid center in Bam.

The British Red Cross allocated dlrs 10 million to the families of the disabled and unattended children with cooperation of Kerman Red Crescent Society.

A devastating earthquake with the magnitude of 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale rocked the historical city of Bam on December 26, 2003, killing over 30,000 people and injuring tens of thousands of others.
