Tehran, July 31, IRNA -- Iran's detained academic Hashemi Aqajari has been ordered to be freed on a bail of rls 970 million and on an agreement by the judge in charge of the case to lower the original rls 1000 million bail.
Brother of Aqajari, seyed Javad Aqajari, told IRNA that the head of the bench 1083 of Tehran's Public Court had ordered release of his brother.
Aqajari, a war veteran, faces charges of spreading lies in order to disturb public opinion.
Aqajari had been sentenced to death by a court in Hamedan for alleged blasphemy in 2002 after delivering a speech in Hamedan University, western Iran. The death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court.
Aqajari was originally tried for blasphemy in a speech he delivered at a Hamedan university.
