"The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) has not yet ratified Iran's joining the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) while the three countries, in a draft resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have asked the Majlis to immediately sign the protocol," he said as he addressed Tuesday's Majlis open session.
"Majlis pursues the national interests. If we consider joining the additional protocol to be in the interests of the people, we will adopt it, if not we will not " he stressed.
"The peaceful use of nuclear energy and obtaining fuel are our natural and basic rights. Iran's cooperation with the IAEA has been based on these two principles," the speaker said.
He stressed that Iran signed an agreement with the three European states last year to prove its goodwill on peaceful use of nuclear energy.
"We opened doors of our nuclear facilities to IAEA inspectors even before signing the protocol which is an indication of our goodwill.
"The resolution proposed by the three European states said Iran should give up even its peaceful activities. This runs counter to our national interests and the commitment of the three EU states," he stated.
He warned Britain, France and Germany and Europeans in general not to fall into the trap of Zionists, like the U.S. and "divert the IAEA to a political issue".
"the European countries will be successful in this regard if they show goodwill," he further said.
