Quakes hit northern Iranian cities of Takestan and Torbat Heidariyeh

An earthquake measuring 3.9 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale hit the city of Takestan in Qazvin province, north of Iran, early Tuesday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute the tremor occurred at 03:54 hours local time (2324 GMT on Monday).

Another earthquake measuring 3.1 degrees on open ended Richter scale rattled the city of Torbat Heidariyeh, in the northeastern province of Khorassan, Monday night.

The seismological base of Tehran University's geophysics institute recorded the tremor at 21:43 hours local time.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage to property caused by the two quakes.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are usual occurrences.
