Iran: Quake hits Bam suburbs in Kerman province

Tehran, June 16, IRNA -- A mild earthquake measuring 3.6 degrees on the Richter scale hit suburbs of the ancient, quake-stricken city of Bam in southeastern Kerman province Wednesday morning.

Kerman's seismological base affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University recorded the temblor at 06:07 hours local time (01:37 GMT).

The base located the epicenter of the quake at an area 29.15 degrees in latitude and 58.18 degrees in longitude.

Once known as the "Milk-Road City," Bam was up to 70 percent demolished by a devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake on December 26 which killed over 41,000 people and injured tens of thousands.
