Iran's soccer team defeats Lebanon 4-0

Tehran, June 18, IRNA -- Skipper Ali Daei hit his hat-trick to help Iran thrash the Lebanese side 4-0 in the third West Asian Football Federation Championship, 2004 Saiwan Cup, in Tehran on Thursday.

Possessing the ball and field in Azadi stadium, west of Tehran, Iran opened the scoring from the penalty spot by once international Daei in the 16th minute.

Right winger Hossein Ka'bi was brought down in the penalty area and the Iraqi referee Hussein Hazim showed the spot.

Daei doubled his own and side's scoring in the 61st minute with a superb header from a tight angle.

Former Bayern Munich striker cut his head, returning to the pitch after having his head bandaged.

Midfielder Javad Nekounam made it 3-0 as he fired home a rebound on 81 minutes.

The world's top goalscorer, Daei, grabbed his 92nd national goal three minutes from time with a neat left kick.

According to program, Iraq plays the Palestinian side and Syria meets Lebanon Saturday.
