Iran's first appearance in Asian cricket competitions was short-lived

Kuala Lumpur, June 19, IRNA -- Iran experienced its first appearance in the Asian Cricket Championships in Malaysia with two consecutive losses, making an embarrassing exit Saturday.

Iran was beaten by Bhutan 107-187 and did not make it in the second match, losing to Nepal 30-31.

Iranian skipper Hossein-Ali Salimian told IRNA his side was expecting such poor results because the Cricket Federation started work just six months ago.

Afghanistan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Bhutan, Nepal, Qatar, and Malaysia advanced to the last eight.

Asian champion and runner-up will qualify for the world event in Ireland.
