Midfielder Javad Nekounam put Iran ahead in the fifth minute as he unleashed a powerful shot past the Iraqi keeper Saad Nasser Jameel.
Iraq scored the equalizer on 34 minutes when Ahmed Mianjid Abbas's drive from behind the area kissed Seyed Mehdi Rahmati's net.
Nekounam played his role again nine minutes into the second half. The midfielder curled a superb pass for the unmarked striker Arash Borhani, who grabbed the winner with an angled header.

Syria held the Jordanian team to a 1-1 tie in the normal time.
