Addressing a ceremony marking the inauguration of Yamchi reservoir dam in this northwestern Iranian province, Khatami said 50 dams have been built in Iran in the post-Islamic Revolution era, five of which erected this year. Khatami said Iran has taken effective steps towards development of its infrastructure, water, power, and roads and investment in the oil, gas and agricultural sectors.
He said that despite all its achievements for development, Iran has a long way to go with patience, resistance and perseverance. Yamchi concrete reservoir dam, with a crest of 860 meters long, 12 meters wide and 61 meters high from the bed, has been built over Balkholou river 25 kms west of Ardebil at a cost of rls 330 billion. The dam has the storage capacity of 80 million cubic meters used for irrigation of 13,000 hectares of regional farmlands and providing 1.5 million cubic meters of potable water for local inhabitants.
