An earthquake measuring 4.9 degrees on
the Richter scale shook the city of Gorgan in the northern
province of Golestan early on Monday, IRNA reported from Tehran.
The seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics
Institute said the tremor, epicentered in an area northeast of
Gorgan between Aliabad and Gonbad cities, occurred at 01:37 hours
local time (2207 GMT on Sunday).
There were no reports of any casualties or damage to property
caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic
faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
