Gonbad-e Kavous, Golestan prov, March 12, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.2 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale early Friday jolted areas around Gonbad-e Kavous, the northeastern province of Golestan.
The seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute said the tremor occurred at 06:17 am local time (02:47 GMT). There were no reports of any immediate damage to property or possible casualties.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes.
